Interview with Barbara Weltman,
President,
Big Ideas for Small Business, Inc.
What inspired you to launch your business?
After working as an attorney to help businesses startup and handle succession planning, retirement and death, I begin my company to help entrepreneurs become smarter and to enable large corporations to sell their products and services to the small business community.
What are some of your services/product offerings?
We offer a free e-newsletter, Big Ideas for Small Business® and a daily tip called Idea of the Day®. We also have books, webinars, and talks to help entrepreneurs start-up and run their businesses effectively. We also offer consulting services to large corporations seeking a connection with the small business market.
What has been the most successful method of marketing your business?
All of our marketing has been viral—through our website www.barbaraweltman.com, blogging on well-read sites such as Business.gov and Start-up Nation, social media, and most importantly, word of mouth.
What are some lessons that you have learned from your business?
Being in business (first my law practice and now my company) for more than 35 years has taught me too many lessons to list here. Some key points: protecting my reputation by working with good people and good companies and turning down work with anyone who could hurt my good name; always keeping my word and performing on time; maintaining good communication with customers and clients; and staying up on and using technology.
